Daniel wants his Tassie Title back!

Dad, Matthew Gurr is somewhat of a legend as an axeman having won titles at the Sydney Royal Easter Show - 325mm Tree Felling in 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006!

Tasmanian axe-wielding legend Bill Youd spotted the potential of this “cocky, cheeky little fella” at a coaching clinic in Deloraine... and thirty years later he's still winning titles.

He's the current Tasmanian Tree-Felling Champion but he has some fierce competition very close to home. Son, and World Champ, Daniel, will be hoping to take the title back that his dad took from him last year.

The battle is on at 12 at the St Helens Athletic Carnival on Saturday... and there's a lot more than top choppers on show.

Tasmania's top runners and cyclists will be doing battle as well in their last chance to win big at Tasmania's Christmas Carnival Series.

The internationals have gone home, but Tassie's top talent will still be on show with the biggest cycling fields in years and rumours of some grudge match ups in the running.

Worth coming just for that... and the battle between Tasmania's top runners and cyclists is a bonus.
